Suns to Sign Free Agent Forward Jae Crowder

Shams Charania is reporting that the Phoenix Suns have signed free agent forward Jae Crowder to a three year contract for just under $30 million. This will no doubt be the Suns' full Mid-Level Exception.

The three year deal comes as a slight surprise, as Chris Paul's current contract ends in 2 years. The assumption among fans has been that any free agents signed this off-season would have been for that same period. There have been no reports so far of any team or player options attached to the deal.

Flex from Jersey (@cruzfe13 on Twitter) has said that the 3rd year is the result of strong competition from other teams to sign Crowder.

Crowder is a 6'6" forward, drafted out of Marquette by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2nd round of the 2012 NBA Draft.

He fills the void left by Kelly Oubre being sent to OKC as part of the Chris Paul trade and is a tough, competitive defender who can light it up from 3.

Jae's numbers don't jump off the chart, averaging just under 10 PPG at 42% for his career, but he brings a wealth of experience to this Suns team, having played 72 Playoff games throughout his career. His most recent run reaching the 2020 NBA Finals with Miami, averaging 12.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists.

This is a fantastic signing for this revamped Suns roster and we're left wondering who we'll add next.
